Co-operative lending and ethical investment

On Wednesday 29 June Co-operative & Community Finance will hold its Annual General Meeting and we’ll make an interesting day of it.

This is a free event and is open to anyone interested in co-operatives and ethical investment. A light buffet and refreshments will be served.

The day will include opportunities to meet other co-operators and ethical investors. We’ve invited a successful pioneer of ethical investment, Jamie Hartzell, who co-founded the Ethical Property Company. If you want to hear a good story of achievement, Jamie will tell the remarkable tale of how since 1998 Ethical Property has grown to own 17 centres throughout the UK and Europe, providing workspace for over 220 co-ops, charities, social enterprises, and community campaign groups. It brings all these groups together under one roof to share skills and ideas. Jamie is currently working with Ethex, a new initiative to bring more investment into social businesses.

Our own Ian Rothwell of Co-operative & Community Finance will explain how to make a successful loan application. He will talk about the factors that he considers make a sustainable co-operative enterprise. He will also give information about the support and advice available to co-operatives.

We are holding our AGM during the two weeks of Co-operatives Fortnight, in order collaborate with the nation-wide campaign which unites the co-operative sector together.
